Find Balance Through Naturopathic Medicine

by | Apr 8, 2024

Naturopathic medicine is a holistic approach to healthcare that emphasizes prevention, treatment, and attaining optimal health through the use of natural therapies. Instead of simply suppressing symptoms, naturopathic medicine works to address the root causes of illness and promote balance and wellness in the body. After all, this is what the body inherently works toward: balance.

Here are some principles and practices commonly associated with naturopathic medicine:

  • Individualized Treatment: Naturopathic doctors (NDs) take into account the unique circumstances and needs of each patient. Treatment plans are tailored to address the individual’s specific health concerns and goals.
  • Addressing the Root Cause: Rather than merely alleviating symptoms, naturopathic medicine seeks to identify and address the underlying factors contributing to illness. This may involve exploring aspects such as lifestyle, diet, stress, environmental influences, and genetics.
  • Prevention: Naturopathic medicine puts emphasis ons on preventing illness and maintaining wellness. Strategies may include promoting healthy lifestyle habits, nutrition, stress management, and regular screenings.
  • Holistic Approach: Naturopathic medicine considers the interconnectedness of the body, mind, and spirit in health and disease. Treatments aim to support the body’s innate healing abilities and restore balance to all aspects of a person’s health.
  • Use of Natural Therapies: Naturopathic doctors employ a variety of natural therapies, including herbal medicine, nutritional supplements, dietary changes, lifestyle modifications, acupuncture, hydrotherapy, and physical medicine techniques.
  • Education and Empowerment: Patients are encouraged to take an active role in their health and wellness journey. Naturopathic doctors provide education and support to empower patients to make informed decisions about their health and lifestyle.
  • Collaboration with Conventional Medicine: Naturopathic medicine can complement conventional medical treatments. Naturopathic doctors may work alongside other healthcare practitioners to provide comprehensive care that integrates both conventional and natural therapies.

By focusing on addressing the underlying causes of illness and promoting overall health and balance, naturopathic medicine offers a holistic approach that goes beyond symptom suppression to support long-term wellness and vitality.

The Colorado Association of Naturopathic Doctors (CoAND) represents Naturopathic Doctors registered in the state of Colorado. To register with the state of Colorado, a Naturopathic Doctor must graduate from a four-year, post graduate, accredited Naturopathic Medical school and then pass the NPLEX exams. Naturopathic Medical School follows the same first two years as a regular Allopathic Medical School, including Anatomy, Physiology, Chemistry, even 80 hours of Pharmacology, where they learn how medications impact the body’s systems, study side effects and contraindications, and learn about interactions of pharmaceuticals when taken with herbs and other supplements.
